Creating Surveys

Collect feedback and opinions from learners with ungraded surveys

Surveys let you gather feedback, opinions, and insights from learners without grading their responses. Unlike tests, all survey responses are valid—there are no right or wrong answers.

Creating a Survey

  1. In the course builder, drag the Survey element onto your course map
  2. Click the element to open the survey editor
  3. Add questions and configure settings

Survey Question Types

Yes/No Questions

Simple binary choice for quick feedback.

Example: "Would you recommend this course to a colleague?"

Single Choice

One answer from multiple options.

Example: "How would you rate this course?"

  • Excellent
  • Good
  • Average
  • Poor

Multiple Choice

Select multiple applicable options.

Example: "Which topics were most helpful?" (select all that apply)

Ranking/Sort

Arrange items in order of preference or importance.

Example: "Rank these features by usefulness (drag to reorder)"

Matrix (Likert Scale)

Rate multiple items on the same scale—ideal for satisfaction surveys.

Example: Rate each aspect from 1-5:

Essay/Text Response

Open-ended questions for detailed feedback.

Question Settings

For each question, you can configure:

  • Required/Optional: Must the learner answer to proceed?
  • Help text: Additional context shown above or below the question
  • Question image: Visual to accompany the question
  • Answer randomization: Shuffle answer options

Survey Settings

Display Options

  • Show progress: Display completion percentage
  • Allow skip: Let learners skip optional questions
  • Randomize questions: Present questions in random order

Completion

  • Required for course completion: Must complete survey to finish course
  • Optional: Survey doesn't block course progress

Viewing Survey Results

Access survey responses from the course statistics:

  1. Go to Statistics in your course
  2. Select the Survey tab
  3. View aggregated results and individual responses

Results Include

  • Response counts per answer option
  • Percentage breakdowns for each question
  • Text responses listed individually
  • Completion rate for the survey

Best Practices

  1. Keep it short - Aim for 5-10 questions maximum
  2. Be specific - Ask clear, focused questions
  3. Use appropriate types - Matrix for ratings, open text for suggestions
  4. Place strategically - Put surveys at course end or after key sections
  5. Act on feedback - Review results and improve your courses
  6. Communicate purpose - Tell learners why their feedback matters

  • Course evaluations - Rate content, instructor, and pacing
  • Needs assessments - Understand learner backgrounds before training
  • Topic preferences - Let learners vote on future content
  • Satisfaction checks - Measure engagement mid-course
